The Crisis in American Democracy Today
The College of Liberal Arts and Sciences’ Professor Emeritus Dick Simpson sees a complex web of political, social and economic challenges that he feels endangers the state of American democracy. He joins us for a live Alumni Exchange event honoring his more than 50-year UIC career to walk through eight specific crises he’s identified and his proposals for how to create a more participatory democracy. The themes he’ll cover dominate his new book, Democracy’s Rebirth: the View From Chicago and his solution may just require amending our Constitution.
