Update from Our Vice Chancellor for Advancement

Happy New Year,

What we’ve accomplished in the past year wouldn’t be possible without the support you provided. Despite hardships, UIC continued serving its mission as a premier urban-serving, public, research institution. We created new ways to educate students and cared for our communities with leadership and diligence, all while climbing in rankings, breaking enrollment records and putting student needs first.

Enjoy the news and opportunities shared below. As we begin this new year, we are especially grateful for all that you do for UIC. Thank you.

Mathematics Professor Morton Harris has made a $1.45 million gift to the UIC Department of Medical Education (DME) in memory of his late wife, Professor Ilene B. Harris, past head of the department. The gift will establish both the Dr. Ilene B. Harris Endowed Professorship in DME and the Dr. Ilene B. Harris Legacy Research Fund.

“Ilene was brilliant and her medical education work worldwide and at UIC, to which she was extremely dedicated, was important and influential,” said Dr. Harris. “Like Ilene was, the Department of Medical Education is dedicated to the development of medical professionals and innovative research to advance the field. I am confident this gift in her honor will promote that goal.” Read more.

The UICAA is launching a number of initiatives in 2021, allowing for mentorship, career advancement and volunteering.

  • UIC Connected: Starting in spring, UIC alumni can access this exclusive online platform to connect with fellow alumni and current students for mentorship and career growth. Stay tuned for more information.
  • Alumni Admissions Program: Admitted students who have yet to commit to UIC may benefit from an alumnus’s perspective. As an admissions volunteer, you can share your story, and advice and wisdom, with the incoming class of students in a manner that works for you. Start here.
  • UIC Alumni Board – We officially launched the UIC Alumni Board in November. The members will plan programs to support students, connect alumni and advocate for UIC. We’re grateful to the alumni serving. Read more about them here.
